Pastors Ponderings

“Path of Least Resistance”
A common phrase is the “path of least resistance.” Sometimes we use this phrase when talking about plumbing or electrical work. But most often, we use this phrase when talking about life decisions. We are faced with difficult choices in life. We have all experienced what it is like having an “easy way out.” While it is usually pretty tempting to choose the “path of least resistance,” we quickly learn this is oftentimes not the best option to choose. The choice that will be the most beneficial in the long-run is often the harder choice. This is exactly why Jesus tells us, “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.” (Luke 13:24) Jesus put in the hard work and chose the more difficult option of the cross. We appreciate His willingness to make that hard decision because this is exactly what saves us. Because Jesus resisted the “path of least resistance,” we can be encouraged as we make decisions in life (even when they are hard decisions!).
